Youthful museum guides. Jugendliche als Museumsexperten

By your leave, Franz von Stuck! A theatrical tour through the Villa Stuck guided by Team Stuck. Young people view art differently from adults. By leading tours, young museum experts have been sharing their unique way of seeing, in dialogue with Museum Villa Stuck visitors, since January 2014. Under the name “Team Stuck,” young people lead tours through the historic Villa Stuck and tell visitors about individual works of art, the painter-prince’s life, and the Villa Stuck as a unique work of art in and of itself. Incorporating elements of theatre and performance in their tours, the young guides interact with visitors of all ages. For a period of six months, these young members of the Kreisjugendring, a network of youth institutions organised by the city of Munich, get to know the Museum Villa Stuck in weekly meetings and help to develop it into a place of creativity and contemplation. The preparation phase includes workshops with art educators, in which young people are able to find out for themselves what they are particularly interested in. They set their own priorities for the tours they lead. The stage-like character of the stately rooms in which Franz von Stuck presented himself and his art, invites a theatrical touch.

So, Team Stuck’s young guides, from the very beginning, are encouraged to incorporate the insights and information they gain into improvised role plays. Through improvisation exercises, professional actors encourage the young guides to take on new roles and to constantly experiment with them. They also train young people in public-speaking, body-language and self-expression techniques. A choreographer helps young people to dance individual scenes, and director Martin Heindel provides valuable impulses for developing exciting narrative styles and elegant transitions. Through this innovative program and in cooperation with the Kreisjugendring München-Stadt, lively and entertaining tours of the historical rooms of the Museum Villa Stuck have been developed, in which young people relate their knowledge of the Villa Stuck to their own life experiences, thereby presenting a uniquely fresh and personal view of the museum. Since January of 2014, the Team Stuck Tour has been an integral part of the Museum Villa Stuck's educational outreach program.
