Acting Communities – Active Community Involvement

The project's primary aim is to strengthen social cohesion by way of an increased involvement of cultural institutions (libraries, museums, public education institutions). One the one hand an important action in this project is to establish and mantain the mentor's network throught their education and meetings leading by professionalists of the cultural sector. With their help 'pilot projects' and cultural programs are realised in villages in several regions in the country which aims are:   the enhancement of the social activity of citizens, the strengthening of community involvement in the settlements to be developed, strengthening relations between local self-governments, cultural institutions and the inhabitants of settlements, raising the culture of cooperation to a higher level. The mentors’ network – originally 62 trained professionals – is the pillar or engine of the Acting Communities priority project. They foster their communities on the spot in order to maintain their initiatives in the long-term.

The cultural community developers’ mentor network – which contains territorially organized groups of 3-5 mentors in every county except Pest and the capital – gives professional and methodological support (help the communities to discover and exploit their strengths; share and promote completed good practices and methodological developments of the project, improve community development of the settlements) On the other hand there is the opportunity for the communities to apply their ideas and planned activities as tenders. The aim is to realise as applications as it possible.
