A journal by Captain James Sympson concerning his company of the Kentucky Volunteer Militia, dated August 31-October 20, 1813. The entries are about the activities surrounding the Battle of the Thames campaign and an account of the battle proper. Includes diagrams, descriptions of the marches, a company roster, and a description of Fort Malden, Detroit. The Battle of the Thames on October 5, 1813 was the last attempt of General William Henry Harrison to reclaim from the British the land that was lost earlier in 1812. The recovery of this land in the Detroit area was largely due to the efforts of Kentucky Regulars and a volunteer militia. It was during this battle that the great Indian chief Tecumseh was killed.
