City of Fort Worth Mayor and Council Proceedings

The Mayor and Council Proceedings are part of the City of Fort Worth Records available at the Fort Worth Library Archives. The collection includes the proceedings for 1895-2011, with the years 1895, 1896, and part of 1897 represented in the digital collection.

The digital collection contains correspondence generated by the City Council committees and various departments of city government. Topics include municipal ordinances and resolutions, taxes,
public health, fire and police departments, schools, claims, and the city budget. A large part of the collection is comprised of petitions written by citizens to request a property tax adjustment, a street improvement project, or the remittance of a fine.

The city leadership during this time was headed by B.B. Paddock, who served as mayor from 1892-1900; M.A. Spoonts was mayor pro-tem. The city secretary was John T. Montgomery, the city attorney was C.M. Templeton, and the city auditor was J.M. Collier. The positions of city marshal and city fire chief were held by James H. Maddox and John C. Cella, respectively.
