Gallery in Church – Luková Revitalization

St. George's Church in Luková, a depopulating village in Western Bohemia, was closed, abandoned and dilapidated for decades since the mid 20th century. In 2012, art student Jakub Hadrava chose this church for his BA thesis-installation called "My souls". Statues of shrouded groups of people symbolizing the former, now-dissapeared believers, drew the attention of the local community and tourists. In cooperation with the local government, artists, businessmen and the Catholic church, a fundraising initiatives was launched which allowed for the restoration of the church. The church then became a cultural centre for local citizens, tourist and artists (art exhibitions, music concerts, lectures are performed there).
