Management of Puppetry Heritage in Chrudim

Chrudim is a small town in Eastern Bohemia. Its heritage presentation and tourist attractiveness is contigent on the centrality of puppetry in this locality. Although the tradition of puppetry dates back over a hundred years, it is still kept alive by several local gropus and institutions, which act both on the local and global level of heritage presentation. The local community gets involved through local puppetry associations (mostly artists); the museum of puppetry is the main instituion of this kind in the Czech Republic (managed by The State Ministry of Culture) and the annual festival hosted by the town is attended by many foreign visitors. The town uses the puppetry heritage to attract tourists. Chrudim puppetry tradition can be also considered as a big part of the whole Czech puppetry, which is enlisted on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
